Health Care

Health Care is one of the most challenging issues facing our state today. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have all the answers, but as a member of the Senate Health Care Committee, I’m committed to working with my fellow lawmakers to find comprehensive solutions that would promote and expand access to affordable, quality Health Care for all North Carolinians.

In my first term as a State Senator, I have supported a wide variety of Health Care legislation including:

  • The No Patient Left Alone Act to provide for patient visitation rights during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

  • The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

  • The North Carolina Caregivers Act

  • The SAVE Act to deliver safe, accessible, value directed and excellent Health Care throughout North Carolina by modernizing nursing regulations

  • Legislation to increase Medicaid funding by $463 Million to ensure continued access to care for the state’s most vulnerable patients while also moving Medicaid from a fee-for-service system to managed care. A move to managed care would help to achieve better budget predictability on program costs, allow providers to have increased flexibility in how they treat patients, and improve patient health outcomes by focusing on integrating both physical and mental Health Care.
